"Cromlech" is an Old Welsh term meaning "
flat stone placed in a circle". This megalithic monument is located in
below the chapel of the Visitation, at a place called "le Villard" in
Fontcouverte-La Toussuire. Twelve stones, some of which reach more than one
metre high, form a circle 17 metres in diameter. This place is
the site dedicated to a very ancient cult that could have served as a cult
sunny, because the cromlech is oriented to the east, facing the Vanoise Massif. The
June 21, the sun appears in the axis of the ellipse. Solar cult or
calendar to carry out the work in the fields, this megalith would date from the
Neolithic. The entire territory of Fontcouverte-La-Toussuire attests to a
very old occupation.
